Our political leaders are too focused on yesterday and today. Our elderly President has fewer years left to live relative to our grandchildren, and yet drives decisions for today, not tomorrow.
Let's reframe the debate on greatness, doing today what must be done to make America greater for our grandchildren. Artificial Intelligence is a catalyst to accelerate that path to the future through bold revolutionary thinking.
We have already seen amazing progress. A century ago, Keynes correctly anticipated major productivity-driven wealth increases and the centrality of technology to growth. Unfortunately, inequality and nationalism have created an uneven distribution of wealth, leisure and greatness. AI materially advances the means Keynes pointed to—productivity, automation, and abundance—and thus makes several of his material predictions easier to realize. The most successful leaders will harness this, but also provide a compelling vision for greatness, our world where are grandchildren can prosper, create, enjoy, love and grow.
Our six point plan
- Increase productivity and material abundance: Continue the pace of technological and commercial innovation. Now, AI automates tasks across manufacturing, services, and R&D, accelerating productivity growth and lowering costs for many goods and services.
- Reduce the working week: Widespread automation will reduce the hours we must work to produce the same output, giving us more choice on how to use our talents - at work, in our communities, in politics and society and with our families.
- Solve scarcity and expanding access to services: There is already more food than required and population growth is slowing. AI-driven logistics, optimization, and personalized delivery of services can expand access to healthcare, education, and information, addressing inequality in access.
- Shift human activity toward progressive pursuits: AI can shift time spent from lower value jobs today to those that drive forward the human race in science, technology, politics, culture and the arts. Politics needs to once more become a destination for our most talented.
- Create a resilient and powerful global community: AI improves forecasting, supply-chain resilience, and crisis response, increasing understanding and reducing risks. A strong military is critical in the short term, but must evolve into a geopolitical and ecological global alliance.
- Democratize innovation and capital accumulation: AI lowers barriers to entry for entrepreneurship, creative and productive tasks. Policy must ensure that it also allows access to capital and does not concentrate capital and data with the few at the expense of the many.
