Sometimes it seems too easy to employ hindsight. But then it's important to actually learn our lessons too.
This American Life had a very good epsiode:

They tell the story of the those who actually wrote pre-war on the post-war challenges. It sounds like they had all the bases covered, though I'd like to read the full document to check that the extracts are not making their argument clearer than it really was.
