With all their initiatives currently, I completely that this is the case, whether Google themselves see it yet. I think they currently are still on the rise from their search beginnings, powered by great dominance in that marketplace to fund everything else. Much like microsoft's office and windows fund their forays into entertainment and online.
But organization's are too complex not to be focused on core areas of competency, and some time in the next few years Google is going to publicly have to decide which are those areas (or does it go back to search alone).
