So, we're all doomed

So, what do we do when the Doomsday Clock scientists warn us of the "....extreme danger posed by nuclear weapons and climate change. When we call these dangers existential, that is exactly what we mean: They threaten the very existence of civilization and therefore should be the first order of business for leaders who care about their constituents and their countries."

Well, the New Yorker had a fascinating and ultimately depressing article on how the rich successful in our society find it more effective to spend money on escape plans, rather than on fixing society.

Doomsday Prep for the Super-Rich - The New Yorker: "As public institutions deteriorate, élite anxiety has emerged as a gauge of our national predicament. “Why do people who are envied for being so powerful appear to be so afraid?” Johnson asked. “What does that really tell us about our system?” He added, “It’s a very odd thing. You’re basically seeing that the people who’ve been the best at reading the tea leaves—the ones with the most resources, because that’s how they made their money—are now the ones most preparing to pull the rip cord and jump out of the plane.”"

I seem to often find myself thinking that Trump et al can hopefully have the very positive effect of making us talk to each other and solve the biggest problems together. With all the history we have now available to us, it would be a shame to collectively fail to learn from it.
